Newly signed bill, A.4937 Fahy/S.5820 Metzger, requires the New York State Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) to prepare an inventory of the state’s electric vehicle infrastructure, and report on improvements, alterations, and upgrades in relation to geographic gaps in existing infrastructure and potential environmental benefits.

‘Range anxiety’, or lack of a widespread and easily accessible electric vehicle infrastructure, continues to be a major obstacle to ownership and purchasing of electric vehicles — especially present in Upstate areas.

This legislation requires NYSERDA to develop a statewide inventory of all charging stations and electric vehicle infrastructure to identify areas where the EV infrastructure is insufficient and leverage that information to bridge geographic gaps to encourage more New Yorkers to invest in an electric vehicle.
